Gears of War: E-Day was released worldwide on October 6, 2026, and is available now on XBOX Series X|S and PC through the XBOX PC app and Steam. The Coalition’s shooter brings Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago back to the catastrophe that started the war.

One city at the start of the war

Set 14 years before the original Gears of War, E-Day follows a younger Marcus and Dom as the Locust emerge from beneath Sera. The campaign centers on Kalona, with the squad fighting through three days and nights as the invasion tears through the city. That smaller window gives the premise its urgency: familiar heroes are experiencing a disaster whose scale they are only beginning to understand.

The campaign is primarily linear, with larger spaces, alternative routes and paths leading to side missions. Cover remains central to combat. For returning players, that means a recognizable foundation with room to explore between objectives; for newcomers, the premise offers a way into the story at the moment the conflict begins.

A bigger role for the squad

Beyond the campaign, Horde Siege expands the series’ cooperative survival formula, bringing 12 players together in three squads to defend larger areas of Kalona. It gives groups a different reason to return after the story, with cooperation extending beyond a single four-person team.

Competitive players also have 4v4 Versus, with maps set in and around the city. Together, these modes give E-Day three distinct draws: the origin story, cooperative defense and head-to-head combat.
