AMD brings FSR 4.1 upscaling to Radeon RX 6000 and more Ryzen PCs

AMD expands FSR 4.1 to Radeon RX 6000, showing its Performance mode against FSR 3.1 Quality on an RX 6800 XT at 4K in Crimson Desert.

AMD FSR Upscaling 4.1 now supports Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards and more Ryzen PCs. AMD’s October 20 release of AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1 brings its machine-learning upscaler to a wider range of existing hardware.

RX 6800 XT at 4K

AMD’s Crimson Desert demonstration puts the Radeon RX 6800 XT at 4K with Ultra settings. Its comparison reports 95 FPS on average with FSR 3.1 Quality mode, alongside 101 FPS with FSR 4.1 Performance mode. Both configurations have frame generation enabled.

According to AMD, FSR 4.1 Performance mode preserves more detail and reconstructs motion more cleanly than FSR 3.1 Quality mode in this demonstration. The example shows the image-quality improvement AMD is promising for existing RX 6000 hardware alongside its reported frame rates.

More PCs can use FSR 4.1

FSR Upscaling reconstructs a higher-resolution image from lower-resolution frames. The expanded support gives more players access to that technology in compatible games, alongside the previously supported Radeon RX 7000 and RX 9000 series.

Hardware Newly added support
Radeon RX 6000 series FSR Upscaling 4.1, from the RX 6900 series down to the RX 6400 class
Ryzen AI Max 300 and 400 series FSR Upscaling 4.1 on these integrated-graphics platforms
Ryzen AI 9 300 and 400 series FSR Upscaling 4.1 on supported laptops

The RX 6000 and RX 7000 entries in AMD’s compatibility list cover upscaling only within the FSR “Redstone” suite. Frame generation and ray regeneration have their own hardware and game requirements.

Players still need a compatible game and driver. AMD maintains a supported-games list, with the available FSR features varying by title.

Handheld support depends on the device

AMD also announced FSR 4.1 for handhelds powered by Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, Ryzen Z2 Extreme and Ryzen Z2 A, including ASUS ROG XBOX Ally devices. Its developer update says release timing varies by device manufacturer.

The general Adrenalin 26.10.1 package excludes gaming handhelds, so owners should use their manufacturer’s device-specific drivers and rollout information. AMD also says FSR 4.1 is coming to XBOX Series X and Series S, with further details to follow.

Frame pacing improvements for RX 9000

AMD is also rolling out frame-pacing improvements for FSR Frame Generation on Radeon RX 9000-series graphics cards. The update applies to supported titles using FSR Frame Generation 3.1.6/4.0.0 or newer. AMD says more consistent intervals between frames improve smoothness and responsiveness.

Vulkan support is next

AMD plans to add Vulkan support for FSR Upscaling 4.1 and machine-learning frame generation in FSR SDK 2.4, expected in the next few weeks. That remains an upcoming developer update; availability in individual games will depend on their integration.
