Sony's new Quick Spectral Super Resolution brings AI upscaling to the standard PS5, starting with graphics options in two games.

AI upscaling is reaching the standard PS5. Sony announced Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR) on October 1, with Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei receiving patches that add it as a graphics option.

QSSR comes from Project Amethyst, Sony’s graphics collaboration with AMD. It combines a smaller neural network with an implementation tuned for PS5, aiming to improve fine detail and image stability within the console’s performance budget.

How it relates to PSSR

Sony’s PS5 Pro PSSR overview describes an AI library that reconstructs higher-resolution images from game frames. QSSR brings a lighter approach to the standard console, while PSSR remains Sony’s higher-tier solution on PS5 Pro.

For players, the immediate step is to update either supported game and look for its added graphics option. Wider availability depends on developers integrating the library; Sony plans to offer it broadly to PlayStation developers. The announcement gives no universal resolution or frame-rate target, so the sensible comparison is between the available modes in each game.
